I am very proud that my assistant, Debra Miller, was recently recognized as "United Way Coordinator of the Year" for the work she did organizing Isaac's 2008 giving campaign. At the awards banquet, she gave a wonderful speech. Here it is, in her words:
"THANK you for this recognition but it is honestly to be shared with others. I believe that good leaders surround themselves with great people and that is why our campaign was so successful.
Our Campaign has grown to 20 restaurants plus our Corporate Office, with hundreds of employees giving to 6 different United Ways…it’s a huge challenge. Each stores’ United Way Rep does incredible work soliciting their coworkers. I could never do this alone anymore.
This year was possibly our best campaign. Not because it was our largest dollars pledged (because it wasn’t), but because half (10 of our 20 restaurants) had 100% of their employees giving during our campaign and that is HUGE! While you may not think so, many of our employees are 16 and 17 year olds and Isaac’s is their first job. Our average employee age is early 20s.
If you go into an Isaac’s and see employees wearing this royal blue shirt that says, “I GIVE TO UNITED WAY,” please thank them because 100% of employees at that Isaac’s gave to United Way during our Campaign. They are wearing these shirts VERY proudly!

I’d like to leave you with one thought. We hear so much about this or that being wrong with the youth of today…
I’d like to say that I find our youth to be GENEROUS INVIGORATING INTERESTED COMMUNITY-ORIENTED SOCIALLY MINDED…people who really do want to make the world a better place. They make me VERY proud!
Thank you, again, for this recognition."
