I'm excited to report that two Isaac's have become official
BookCrossing Zones! Check out what BookCrossing is all about at
BookCrossing.com. It's sort of a world wide library without walls, where you can pick up books to read, and also share your books with others. I love the concept! They have an excellent
FAQ.
This all got started when a customer in Isaac's in Spring Ridge (Wyomissing), "Released" a book in the restaurant. "Released" is BookCrossing vernacular for leaving a book for someone else to find. We were intrigued, and tracked down the customer to see what this was all about. One thing led to another, and now we have an official bookshelf in our lobby that she keeps well stocked! You can see some of the books
here.
We got to know our Spring Ridge Bookcrosser, Janet Selman. She is a certified nurse midwife with a practice in inner city Reading. She is an avid reader, and loves the serendipity and karma of
BookCrossing - you never know where a book will eventually end up. (The books are individually marked, and you can follow their travels on the Internet.) She also takes children's books to her practice and she knows that, for the kids she sees in her clinic, these might be the only books they have.
Janet is also involved in Greyhound rescue, and owns three, plus she always has one or two fosters. She also has two children and a maniac cat. What a household!
Janet enjoys the
chatting,
forums and book rings on Bookcrossing.com. She is currently reading African Diary by Bill Bryson.
Our other Book Zone is in Isaac's in Downtown Lancaster. It's managed by the staff.
Here are some of the recently released books. This location also has free WiFi, so you can take your laptop and go online to journal about your books while you are in the restaurant!
Personally, I like to read nonfiction and, in the past, I always saved books after I read them. I guess I always wanted to have them, just in case I needed to check a fact, or something like that. But somewhere along the line, I discovered that giving books away suddenly increased my pleasure ten-fold! Now I never own books. I buy them, read them, and then give them away. You should try it! It feels great!
