One aspect of working at Isaac’s that makes me extremely proud is our employees’ commitment to volunteerism. I was reminded of this in the past few days when I participated in United Way “Day of Caring” in Harrisburg and also Lancaster. I joined our employees who came out to do some good work.
In Harrisburg, we went to a Senior Center called the Rutherford House, and painted a few rooms. You’ve probably seen the sign for the Rutherford House on the South side of Rt83 near the Paxton Street Exit. Here we are, hard at work!
While we were painting, Seniors came in and played Bingo.
Here we all are after a grueling day of painting.
The following day, employees from Lancaster helped wash cars at Friendship Community, a residential facility for adults with developmental disabilities. Luckily it was a hot sunny day! More than the cars got washed!
Here I am after one of the employees yelled “stop walking around with that camera in your hand, and get waxing!
Here is the entire crew!
York County’s day of caring is at the end of the month, and I look forward to that project!
October is the month when we ask all our employees to give to the United Way. I’m always touched by the willingness of hourly employees to contribute. It’s the restaurant industry, so they work hard and don’t get paid as much as in other industries, but most of them don’t shy away from shouldering what they feel is their responsibility.
Last year, in our industry category, Isaac’s employee giving to the United Way was:
- 2nd overall in employee contributions
- 5th in total employee participation (usually about 60% for us)
- 14th in average size of employee contributions.
Of the roughly 500 businesses that participate in United Way giving, Isaac’s was:
- 23rd in all employee contributions
- 92nd in participation
- 307th in average employee gift.
This year, we are very pleased that the manager of our store in Downtown Lancaster, Jessica Comp, was featured in the United Way promotional video. She is a very strong-willed, easy to get to know person! You might recognize her from behind the take out counter, or perhaps she is your caterer of choice for business lunches. Here is the video.
I have the best workmates in the world!
